Liz Johnson Artur’s first solo exhibition in the UK brings about very personal documentation of the African diaspora community she is surrounded with. To express her intimate relationship with this subject Artur creates a series of magnificent sculptural narratives made from bamboo canes, felt, acetate, cardboard, etc. The narratives are built from her substantial archive of photographs which are materialised using a variety of experimental printmaking techniques (different fabrics and found materials) and ways of display (rough stapling, handmade journals, etc) . The show is meticulously curated to share the artist’s passionate journey through focusing on the lives of underrepresented people around us.
