It was a blessing to accidentally view the exhibition in Zurich, ‘Louise Bourgeois & Pablo Picasso: Anatomies of Desire’. Highly regarded curator Marie-Laure Bernadac and Hauser & Wirth gallery have created a powerful dialogue between two art icons. A dual perspective to eternal subjects of humanity – love, passion, compassion and motherhood are presented with over 90 works from drawings to sculptures. Both artists works quite successfully complemented and empowered each other. Both artists are inspired by the inner world of strong emotions forced by relationships with people they loved dearly. Both artists’ visceral language is echoing primitive art style. Both artists merge female and male into one.
As much as I adore Picasso, Bourgeois’s work was always resonating and inspiring. Although photography hasn’t been allowed, I have been loaded on books about her art and during the exhibition have been admiring her powerful eclectic work in flesh and detail.
